Preparing for Easter During a Pandemic

I’ve always been big on holidays and now that we have Evan they take on an entirely new and special meaning. While I know Evan hasn’t the slightest clue that Easter is around the corner it’s super fun and heartwarming for Nitin and I to create special traditions for him. Truthfully I’d love nothing more than for Evan to spend his first Easter brunching with our family and going on an egg hunt with his cousins, but unfortunately that isn’t possible this year. With more businesses closing by the day and online ordering experiencing delays, preparing for Easter is no easy task this year.

Supporting local businesses is something I’ve always felt strongly about. It breaks my heart to see so many businesses struggling during this pandemic, so Nitin and I have been making an extra effort to support local now more than ever. The great thing about local businesses is that many are offering free delivery or curbside pickups, making it totally possibly for you to give back to your community and create the perfect Easter for your family. I spent hours upon hours last week trying to order our Easter decor, Evan’s Easter basket and gifts. I was quickly met with: Out of Stock, Will Arrive by April 30th, Processing delays …the list goes on. However, a few key businesses (local and not) pulled through for me and I’m excited to share with you guys my Easter round-up. From decor and treats to baskets and fillers, here are my top picks to get you through this one-on-a-kind Easter.

My local Michaels came to my rescue big time for my Easter decor. I was able to place my order online and do a curbside pickup in less than 24 hours. I got this garland for my dining table along with these bunnies. I also ordered this garland and this garland to decorate our house. When you are on the Michaels site, make sure you sort by Free Store Pickup, and also make sure to check the stock at your local store.

How adorable are these Hippity Hop Bunnies or these ones from Accents for Living?! Order online and get these bad boys delivered right to your door!

All of the Easter baskets I initially wanted for Evan wouldn’t arrive on time, so I ended up selecting this moss basket from Michaels. It’s not the most kid-friendly, but they have plenty of other options here.

Located in Downtown Oakville, Makers Mojo offers a beautiful selection of handmade products by Canadian makers. These adorable bunny accessories give me all the feels and the earrings are a great price at $12. Everything is available for curbside pickup.

My parents love Peter Rabbit. I love Peter Rabbit. Evan loves Peter Rabbit. Surprised? I would have the best time reading these books with my siblings when I was younger, and it brings me so much joy to see Evan’s excitement when his eyes land on a Peter Rabbit book. Nitin and I got him this book to include in his basket, and while Indigo says their shipping times are delayed, all of my orders (there have been quite a few) have arrived within 3 business days.

Speaking of Peter Rabbit, if you have a little one at home they are sure to enjoy this animated Peek-a-Book stuffed animal. Santa got Evan this animated elephant for Christmas and he just adores it.

Soft, snuggly and super adorable, this bunny makes for a perfect basket filled.

I couldn’t resist this bunny teether for Evan, and I love how it’s made by a Canadian company, Loulou Lollipop.

Evan loves books so we thought we would give this one a whirl. It warms my heart watching him crawl over to our bookshelf and pull down his favourite books. Needless to say, his Easter basket is filled with different books for him to enjoy. If you’re on the hunt for some great baby books, some of Evan’s favs are this one, this one and this series.

Who doesn’t love custom apparel? Entripy.com is Canada’s leading custom apparel provider and they are located right here in Oakville. Bedsides doing all the printing for the Raps, Leafs, Tims, etc, they also produce one-off custom orders. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? MATCHING FAMILY SHIRTS! Just click on the No Minimum section, place your order online with a rush, and your order will ship out this week!

Jacadi is my favourite store to shop for Evan. His coming home outfit was from here and it was one of the first things we purchased when we found out we were expecting a boy. I love the quality of Jacadi clothes, which make up a solid 50% of Evan’s wardrobe (including the top and bottoms he’s wearing in this post). My favourite Easter picks are this one, this one and this one. You can email your order directly to the Oakville store (details here).

If you haven’t tried Walker’s Chocolates you are missing out. They make the most delicious chocolate and are a hands-down Easter must-have. If you are located in Oakville, Burlington or Hamilton and you place your order online before midnight on Tuesday April 7th they guarantee delivery on or before Saturday April 11th. Click here for their Easter delivery message.

My favourite bakery, The Sweetest Thing, is offering personalized Easter cookies (egg or bunny) + a wide assortment of sweet treats. They offer free, no contact delivery within Oakville (on Thursday they are also offering free delivery to Burlington, and on Saturday to Mississauga). I’ve ordered personalized cookies for Nitin and Evan, as well as for my nieces and nephew (to leave on their doorstep of course). You can check out their full Easter menu here.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Easter! I know it probably isn’t the Easter you are hoping for this year but it’s never too late to make the most of it!

xx, Kiki
