DIY Valentine’s Day Floral Decor

Nitin always says I was two things in my past life; a florist and a hopeless romantic (the latter of which is no different today). It comes as no surprise to those around me that Valentine’s Day is one of my most beloved holidays. My vision this year was to create a floating floral wreath, and as I was picking up supplies from Dollarama I couldn’t help by eye the styrofoam balls lining the craft aisle. I simply couldn’t resist picking up a couple packs, and well …one thing led to another and I ended up with this impromptu DIY Valentine’s Day floral set-up. Let me introduce to you my floating floral wreath, Retro Rosey, Mohawk Marcus and the flowerball…

Floating Floral Wreath

What you Need

Craft Board – A styrofoam board will work as well.

Heart stencil – I’m terrible at making symmetric hearts so I purchased a hanging heart display from Dollarama, dissembled it and used the largest heart (the black and white one) as my wreath stencil.

Flowers – I picked up rose bouquets from Dollarama, but you can use any flower you prefer. The reason I like the ones from Dollarama is because the wire is easy to cut and the roses have a nice sparkle to them. I used 1 bouquet of the medium pink roses, 3 bouquets of the light pink roses and 3 bouquets of the white roses. There are 6 roses per bouquet, and each bouquet is $1.50.

Pen or pencil – This is for drawing the outline of the heart onto the craft board.

Exacto knife – This easily cuts through the craft board.

Stretchy Elastic String – This is the string for making bracelets, and it’s used for hanging the wreath with.

Directions

1. Cut the roses off the bouquet, leaving around 1.5” of stem (half the stem is pressed into the craft board in the image below).

2. Take the black and white heart outline and trace it over the craft board.

3. Using your exacto knife, cut out the shape of the heart (do not do this overtop of delicate surfaces).

4. Starting from the bottom point of the heart, start poking the medium pink roses into the craft board.

5. Continue your way up the wreath, graduating from medium pink to light pink to white.

6. Poke a hole in the top of the wreath, string your string through it and hang.

Retro Rosey & Mohawk Marcus

What you Need

Styrofoam Balls – You can get a pack of two for $1.50 at Dollarama.

Flowers – 2 bouquets of light pink roses and 1 bouquet of white roses.

Mustache Stencil – Google mustache clipart and select the mustache you like best.

Black Sharpie

Directions for Retro Rosey

1. Cut the roses off the bouquet, leaving around 2” of stem.

2. Insert four flowers side by side along the top of the ball. Behind the row of four, add 3 – 4 more roses.

3. About an inch and half under the first row of roses, take your black sharpie and draw eyelashes.

Directions for Mohawk Marcus

1. Cut the roses off the bouquet, leaving around 2” of stem.

2. At the top of the ball insert one white rose, and add three more behind it. This will form the mohawk.

3. Take your mustache stencil and trace it onto the styrofoam ball, a few inches under the first rose.

4. Colour in the mustache with a black sharpie

Really, it’s that simple!

Flower Ball

What you need

Styrofoam Ball

Flowers – 2 bouquets of light pink roses, 2 bouquets of medium pink roses, 3 bouquets of white roses.

Directions

1. Cut the roses off the bouquet, leaving around 2” of stem.

2. Start poking the lighter pink roses into the bottom of the styrofoam ball. Once you have added all your light pink rose, add a row of the medium pink roses. Cover the remaining area with the white roses.

I would love to hear your DIY Valentine’s ideas!

xo, Kiki
